The previous two reports duplicate our experiences at Old Church Farm – a delight in every respect except maybe in the final bill, but real time professionalism seldom comes cheap and Christopher & Kate Trim certainly delivered a quality experience.
We had Room 4, described as a King Deluxe En-suite with Bath and with a view over the Gardens. Modern hotel box rooms this isn’t. This is how our 19th century ancestors lived if they were fortunate enough to be in the upper middle classes – spacious, warm, comfortable and peaceful apart from the muted noise of the short cutting commuter traffic going past on the country road in the morning. It is quiet and well off the busy A38 and M5.
Although we were aware of other guests staying, they never appeared in our line of sight so dinner was a solo experience ably waited upon by Chris and the food was a delight, backed up by a bottle of Sierra Cantabria Rioja. Breakfast was the same (by ourselves with a breakfast as much as we desired).
Entertainment was traditional country house if you did not wish to watch the wide screen TV in our room, that of strolling in the extensive gardens and meadows, peering into the ruined church attached to the house or reading from the extensive selection of books scattered around.
The bottom line for one night bed, breakfast and dinner was £294.50 plus gratuities, breaking down into Room £180, breakfast £25, Dinner £50 and wine £39.50.
